My time at The Women’s Organisation
By Minnie Barker
Coming into The Women’s Organisation for this week has been the best experience! I have learnt so much about the world of work, how an office works and what a good work environment looks like. I was a little nervous stepping into this experience, but The Women’s Organisation made me feel so welcome, and everyone was so nice to me.
Day 1:
On the first day of the week, I meet the team and was shown around the building, by Germaine, she was really nice and was there to help me the whole week. It was great to walk into a new environment and everyone being so welcoming! When I sat down at my desk for the week, I was given some tasks to get done for that morning, e.g. logging onto the social media accounts and just getting my bearings of the websites etc. After I was all set up with the accounts and platforms I was going to be using for the week, I started to work on a social media plan for the week and what I thought they should be posting per day. I got the chance to work with Anna, another member of the team, and she really helped me this week by giving me tasks to do and being there to help. After making the plan for the week, I got to film a post for the TikTok page, promoting the new coffee shop. After editing and posting it, I was able to make a promotional poster for a conference happening later in the week. This was a great experience learning how marketing works and how to promote things.
Day 2:
The second day, I started filming some more videos again for the TikTok page, one of them being and April fool’s day video, pranking some of the staff with fake brownies! Later on in the day, I was shown how to schedule posts for Facebook and X and found some news articles to post. I edited them and scheduled them to be posted later on in the week. I also started making a monthly newsletter where I took some pictures of the building and what was going on that month to then put into the newsletter. I also finished the promotional poster for people visiting the building to leave a review and put them around the building ready for when visitors come in.
Day 3:
On the third day, first thing in the morning was a staff meeting where we all gather around and talk about what we are doing this week and what we want to get done for the rest of the week. When I sat down at my desk after the meeting, I carried on working on the monthly newsletter, taking more pictures and gathering things to put into it. I reposted another video on TikTok from the Instagram and checked all the social media platforms to keep them in check. I also started this entrepreneur course, Germaine told me about, and it talks all about how to become an entrepreneur and what makes a good one, and how to get there.
Day 4:
On Thursday, I started making a new menu and posters for the cafe next door, promoting their parties, events and their yummy food! I also finished the monthly newsletter and sent it off to be put onto the website of The Women’s Organisation and 54 St James Street socials (the building The Women’s Organisation is located in). Later on in the day I got introduced to how to do the analytics of the social media accounts, recording all the followers, likes etc. In the afternoon, I went up to take some pictures of some food from a conference meetings that were going on in the building, so then I could post them on Instagram. I also carried on with the entrepreneur course as well, learning about what makes a good entrepreneur.
Day 5:
The last day, I started the day off by making a blog of what I had done and learnt throughout the week and my experience at The Women’s Organisation, I also finished the entrepreneur course that I had been working on all week.
I had the best time at the women’s organisation, learning how to promote things well, finding out more about marketing and also the way of work and how a business runs, and what it is like to be a part of one. I loved being a part of the team and being able to contribute to the business.
Thank you to The Women’s Organisation for having me this week!
