It’s no secret that women’s health has been historically overlooked. The same holds true for women’s health in the workplace. Research shows ignoring women’s health in the workplace has a significant, negative impact on both individuals and businesses.

Poor women’s health and inadequate support in the UK  lead to a staggering 150 million lost working days annually. (ONS)  It not only affects women’s physical, mental, and financial well-being but also costs the UK economy a substantial £20.2 billion each year in lost productivity. 

Women constitute nearly half of the workforce, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make up 99% of UK businesses.

We know that supporting women’s health is particularly challenging for SMEs and third-sector organisations, which may lack the resources of larger corporations.

What can be done? 

One tool to achieve better women’s health support at work is the Women’s Workplace Wellness (WWW) Platform, designed to help SMEs and third-sector organisations. The platform has two main parts:

1. The Advocacy Development Programme

This fully funded programme aims to empower individuals provide information and guidance, advocate for workplace adjustments, inform managers about women’s health needs, and collaborate with managers develop and update supportive workplace policies in their own workplace. It is delivered via Live Online Training or via Self-paced Online Training.

2. Resource Bundles

These free resources are regularly updated and can be accessed through the Women’s Workplace Wellness Platform. The bundles include podcasts, legal and compliance toolkits, and a knowledge bank. They cover a range of topics spanning menopause, flexible working, menstrual and maternal health.
