About Directions
Directions was an innovative programme delivered through a dynamic consortium of organisations designed to simplify access to employment support for individuals in the Liverpool City Region. Part-funded by the European Social Fund, Directions is a fully-integrated support programme which improves the employability of 1,776 residents in the Liverpool City Region who were not in work, by:
- Supporting individuals to develop their confidence and self esteem
- Supporting people into training and education
- Enabling people to participate in active job search
- Connecting participants to volunteering, specific job and job trial opportunities
- Supporting 675 people to be in employment 6 months after leaving the project
- Connecting them to other support programmes e.g. Ways to Work ILM, Apprenticeship, AEB provision, Building Better Opportunities – Better Off Finance, Digital Projects and Households into Work
- Providing a branded One Front Door for people to access information on the project, its benefits, and to ensure that there is no customer confusion

- A creator of quality pathways to employment and economic opportunity

- Motivational
- Transformational
- Provider expert advice and support
- A central contact for those out of work seeking to access support to progress
The key objectives of Directions were to raise aspirations, develop skills and raise awareness of pathways into employment opportunities to raise the economic position of those involved, and in turn enhance the wellbeing of these individuals and those around them. Through empowering the individual, we enabled communities to flourish.
About the Partnership
Directions was delivered through an innovative partnership approach led by The Women’s Organisation. Offering support to individuals in the Liverpool City Region are: First Steps Enterprise Limited, Halton Citizens Advice, Innovative Alliance Ltd, Irish Community Care, Joseph Lappin Partnership, Liverpool Adult ADHD, Merseyside Expanding Horizons (MEH), Mencap, SOLA Arts, Tomorrow’s Women Wirral (TWW), WHISC, Wirral Development Trust, Writing on the Wall (WoW) and The Brain Charity.
The partnership was carefully selected to ensure a high quality of service was delivered across diverse communities, particularly focusing on accessibility for BAME communities, those with a disability or long-term health condition and those with socio-economic barriers.
